CROSS FARM, WEDMORE OVERVIEW CLIENT Acorn Property Group SECTORS Residential LOCATION Wedmore, Somerset PLANNING AUTHORITY Sedgemoor District Council HIGHWAY AUTHORITY Somerset County Council PROJECT TEAM Acorn Property Group PROJECT DIRECTOR James Darrall RELATED PROJECTS Chocolate Factory, Keynsham PROJECT Cross Farm is a collection of 31 dwellings located on the edge of Wedmore in Somerset. The development is supported by a Travel Plan and TPA have been appointed by Acorn Property Group as the Travel Plan Coordinator. APPROACH As Travel Plan Coordinator, TPA is responsible for implementing the Travel Plan and encouraging mode shift towards more sustainable modes of travel. Despite its rural location, Wedmore village has a variety of facilities and amenities that residents of Cross Farm may require on a daily basis. As such, we will focus on implementing measures that encourage walking and cycling. Residents were initially introduced to the Travel Plan and sustainable travel opportunities available to them via an online Travel Information Pack provided on occupation. A regular newsletter will be issued to residents to raise awareness of the Travel Plan and promote walking, cycling and local public transport. A key part of Travel Plan Coordinating is the ongoing monitoring of travel behaviour. TPA will undertake monitoring of Cross Farm resident travel behaviour over a five year period. Following each travel survey, results will be summarised in a Monitoring Report and uploaded on Somerset County Councils iOnTRAVEL website. OUTCOME The Travel Plan aims to achieve a ten percent reduction in single occupancy vehicle mode share over a five year period. LAND SOUTH OF THE LAWNS, KEMPSEY OVERVIEW CLIENT Vistry SECTORS Residential LOCATION Kempsey PLANNING AUTHORITY Malvern District Council HIGHWAY AUTHORITY Worcestershire County Council PROJECT TEAM Vistry PROJECT DIRECTOR James Darrall RELATED PROJECTS Northdale End, Raunds PROJECT Having supported the planning application for this residential development in Kempsey, we have been working on behalf of Vistry as the Travel Plan Coordinator since 2018. APPROACH In the first year of our Travel Plan Coordinator role we undertook a resident travel survey. This revealed that existing resident travel patterns differed to those forecast in the Travel Plan, which were based on 2011 Census data. We used the survey results to amend five year targets and agreed these as appropriate with the Travel Plan officer at Worcestershire County Council. Since 2018, we have continued to raise awareness of the Travel Plan and available sustainable transport opportunities through the issue of an annual Travel Plan newsletter. Whilst the site does not benefit from a high level of walking and cycling connections to key destinations, it is located in close vicinity of the recently opened Worcestershire Parkway Station. We have worked with Great Western Railway to ensure all residents were provided with promotional material raising awareness of the new station, which provides regular services to Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham. OUTCOME The Travel Plan aims to achieve an eight percentage point reduction in single occupancy vehicle mode share over a five year period. This will be achieved through the implementation of agreed Travel Plan measures and through regular monitoring. NORTHDALE END, RAUNDS OVERVIEW CLIENT Bowbridge Homes SECTORS Residential LOCATION Raunds PLANNING AUTHORITY East Northamptonshire Council HIGHWAY AUTHORITY Northamptonshire County Council PROJECT TEAM Browbridge Homes PROJECT MANAGER Tim Hornby PROJECT DIRECTOR John Hopkins RELATED PROJECTS Cross Farm, Wedmore PROJECT Planning permission has been granted by east Northamptonshire Council for a mixed-use development to the north of Raunds, comprising 310 homes, residential care facilities and employment uses. TPA has been appointed as the Travel Plan Coordinator for the residential aspect of the development. APPROACH As Travel Plan Coordinator, TPA is responsible for implementing the Travel Plan and encouraging mode shift towards more sustainable modes of travel. Whilst Raunds is a relatively small market town in rural Northamptonshire, it provides a good level of facilities, amenities and employment opportunities that are accessible by sustainable modes of travel. The development also benefits from new bus stops, ensuring all residents are within a 300m walking distance of a bus service. The Travel Plan will therefore focus on raising awareness of how these trips, which may have been completed by private car, can be made by walking, cycling and public transport. Residents are most likely to change their travel patterns on occupation. TPA have therefore provided a Travel Information Pack to each home in the form on an online flipbook. This introduces the variety of sustainable travel opportunities available in the vicinity of Raunds. We will continue to raise awareness of alternative modes of travel through regular Travel Plan newsletters and promotional events. OUTCOME The Travel Plan aims to achieve a 20 percent reduction in single occupancy vehicle mode share over a five year period. This will be achieved through the implementation of agreed Travel Plan measures and through regular monitoring. CHOCOLATE FACTORY, KEYNSHAM OVERVIEW CLIENT St Monica Trust SECTORS Commercial LOCATION Keynsham PLANNING AUTHORITY Bath and North East Somerset Council HIGHWAY AUTHORITY Bath and North East Somerset Council PROJECT TEAM Alder King PROJECT DIRECTOR James Darrall RELATED PROJECTS GCCC Travel Plan Coordinator PROJECT The Chocolate Factory is a distinctive former industrial building which forms part of the mixed-use Chocolate Quarter redevelopment in Keynsham and provides over 40,000 sq.ft of office accommodation. Having prepared bespoke Travel Plans for each commercial occupier, TPA was instructed by St Monica Trust to undertake the Travel Plan Coordinator role. APPROACH Whilst the redevelopment adopted a restrained approach to on-site car parking provision, baseline staff travel surveys undertaken by TPA revealed a staff single occupancy vehicle mode share of 65%. Successful implementation of the Travel Plan will therefore be essential to reduce parking demand. As part of the Travel Plan Coordinator role, TPA will be working closely with each occupier to ensure their staff are encouraged to utilise sustainable transport for their journey to work. We will be advising each occupier on measures that can be implemented to promote sustainable transport whilst ensuring a high awareness in the Travel Plan is maintained, for example, by issuing a regular staff newsletter. As with any Travel Plan, regular monitoring is essential to ensure that the measures implemented remain effective, feedback is received and that progress towards agreed mode shift targets is maintained. TPA will be responsible for undertaking annual staff surveys, analysing results and issuing monitoring reports to Bath and North East Somerset Council. OUTCOME TPA will be responsible for the delivery of the Chocolate Factory Travel Plans through to 2024. We look forward to achieving a significant and permanent change in travel behaviour during this period. SPIRAX SARCO, CHELTENHAM OVERVIEW CLIENT Spirax Sarco SECTORS Commercial LOCATION Cheltenham PLANNING AUTHORITY Cheltenham Borough Council HIGHWAY AUTHORITY Gloucestershire County Council PROJECT TEAM Spirax Sarco PROJECT MANAGER Simon Moody PROJECT DIRECTOR James Darrall RELATED PROJECTS Cross Farm, Wedmore PROJECT TPA was instructed by Spirax Sarco to prepare a staff Travel Plan for their manufacturing centre and headquarters in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The primary aim of the Travel Plan was to reduce on-site car parking demand. The Travel Plan provided a detailed accessibility review of each site and summarised staff survey results that were undertaken to determine existing travel behaviour. In liaison with Spirax Sarco, a suite of measures were set out in the Travel Plan in order to reduce reliance on the private car and encourage sustainable travel amongst staff. After preparing the Travel Plan, TPA were appointed by Spirax Sarco as the Travel Plan Coordinator. APPROACH As Travel Plan Coordinator, TPA have been in regular contact with Spirax Sarco in order to effectively implement the Travel Plan. We conducted a detailed site visit at both the manufacturing centre and headquarters in order to further understand the existing operation. This allowed us to determine how the proposed ‘hard measures’, such as improved cycle parking facilities, can be delivered. A Travel Information Pack has been issued to all staff which introduces the variety of sustainable travel opportunities available in Cheltenham. The information was tailored to each site based on surveyed staff commuting patterns. Measures such as the promotion of car sharing, emergency cycle repair kits and the organisation of free breakfasts for staff who travel sustainably are some of the measures soon to be implemented. OUTCOME We will continue to work closely with Spirax Sarco to implement the Travel Plan and achieve the desired mode shift.
